Long Overdue -- Again
First day of First Grade -- August 14, 2009
After losing another top tooth (and she's lost one more top tooth since).
On picture day (don't worry, her hair hasn't been dyed; I had the camera on a strange setting I noticed later, and when I posted this here her hair looks red).
The past 6 weeks since school started have been a BLUR! Eva loves first grade, particularly her teacher, Ms. Hagan. She is proving to be quite the social butterfly, coming home talking about a different new friend each day the first few weeks of school. She has also gotten 2 yellows (on a green (good), yellow (caution), red (not good) scale) for “not listening” or “not following directions. She’s too busy being social to pay attention or do her work the right way. I actually get quite a chuckle out of it, but I have to be careful not to let her see me laughing!
Eva is taking tennis lessons from the gym teacher at school, who picks the kids up at aftercare and returns them there afterwards. Eva likes it, although she has missed 2 of the weekly sessions, once due to the stomach flu and today due to stoved toe. Of course, the toe hasn’t stopped her from running, jumping, etc., but she just can’t wear tennis shoes. It is actually looking a lot better tonight, so I think she is on the mend. I’ll tell you, it is always something with that girl!
This past weekend, we went to Ohio – Eva to my sister’s and me to Wooster (25th reunion planning committee meeting). We each had a delightful time, and then when we reunited a scant 24 hours later, Eva was all over me and kept telling me how much she missed me, etc. You know what they say about absence . . .
Speaking of fond . . . the other morning, I came downstairs to find Eva having drawn a picture of trees and lightning bolts, clouds and the word BOOM with lines at either end signifying loudness, I believe. The words she wrote below it were, “I do not like thunder and lightning. I am not fond of them.” Love it! And the other morning when we had thunder (again) early in the morning, she said, “this storm is taking away my good mood.” After the 2nd wettest September on record in TN (11 inches I heard), I can completely relate. You cannot imagine the euphoria in Nashville the last two days, because the sun has shone and there has been 0 precipitation.
In the weeks since school started, we had a car accident (Eva was in the car with me, and the other driver hit us on Eva’s side of the car, but thankfully no one was hurt. The car has been in the shop for 1.5 weeks now, and each day I expect them to call for me to pick it up and they don’t; we’ll be glad to have our car back). And not long after that Eva had the nastiest stomach flu. She bounced back quickly, and somehow I was spared! We’ve enjoyed seeing a couple of movies – Ponyo (beautiful) and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (silly and fun).
The biggest thing on the horizon is a trip to Disney World – October 17-24!!! I doubt I will post before then, but I promise to post shortly after we return. We’re going to stay at the Wilderness Lodge and will get to have breakfast at Cinderella’s castle! I’m not sure which of us is more excited. So, until then . . . take care!
